Probably in every society there is conflict between young and old. Many pieces of literature show us this is the oldest type of conflict between groups. The act of talking down to someone immediately shows them that you completely disrespect them and feel that they are inferior to you. This type of bullying is present in many scenes of To Kill A Mockingbird but one in particular is during the Tom Robinson trial. When Tom is on the stand and has to respond to Mr. Gilmer’s questions(Chapter 19,pg 263). Mr Gilmer talks down to him calling him boy over and over again. This action upsets even Dill someone with no connection to Tom but just overwhelmed with empathy for Tom, and his position he was in.
