First, the article examines the debate that police legitimacy has a vital impact on police support from the public. The authors analyze the impact of police authenticity on three facets of community support. The three facets include; behavioral accordance to the law, behavioral participation in conjunction with the police, and public compliance to help support policies that engage the police to utilize their judgment in upholding the law. Next the authors compare the impact of authenticity with the impact of three kinds of instrumental judgments: hazard, execution, and distributive reasonableness.
