Essay On Personal Narrative: My Hero's Journey

It was December 20th, 2015. I had no idea what that day was going to bring. I owned a horse named Nevaeh that year. She was very naughty and we travel all over to do shows for people. It’s very embarrassing when your horse starts bucking in front of a crowd of people. So Kelly, my horse instructor, or in other words a close friend, decided it was time for a change. She brought Jaelyn and I to a place in Volga, Iowa called Katy’s Corral. Katy runs the place and buys and sells horses. I knew why Kelly brought us here. It was to sell Nevaeh or get a new horse, but I don’t know if I was quite ready for that.
We arrived there early in the morning. We all hopped out of the growling diesel truck. As we walked down the muddy gravel road, I looked at some of the horses out in the snowy pastures. One caught my eye. It was a black and white horse that was very handsome. As we kept walking toward the barn Katy appeared. She had red hair, with glasses and lots of freckles. She had a camo coat on with her pants tucked into her muddy boots. She greeted us at the doorway of the barn. Katy decided that we should bring out Nevaeh first. Katy would get on and see what Nevaeh would

She hopped on and showed us the walk, trot, and canter. He did everything correctly and he was very well mannered. After Katy was done I jumped on him. He was awesome. He was like a breeze compared to my other horse Nevaeh. I finished cantering around the arena and stopped at the gate where it opens to the main barn, also where everyone was sitting and watching. Jaelyn almost whispered, “Can I

(1)Most movies that I’ve seen that were based on a real story bored me to death, mainly because there was no big dramatic scene of teen drama or fighting. I like dreamy romantic movies that capture your imagination and vigorously strive to meet popular demand. But once I saw the Walt Disney film, Secretariat my mind completely changed, Secretariat opened up my eyes to the history of our world and the horse racing industry. (2)(play part of the race) (3)Secretariat was a horse that defied all odds to be the first horse in 25 years to win the triple crown race. Even with a poor start, being sixth out of the gates, he demonstrated his endurance by passing the competition to achieve first place.…

Not so much about how she will perform but more on how well I've worked with her and if I've taught her what she needs to know and if it was enough for her to be ready to be at her first race. We are here for exhibition runs only tonight so I ease my thoughts by focusing on that. We are here for her to get used to the surroundings and the excitement of the barrel racing scenes. She has to get used to being around unfamiliar horses, so many new and loud noises, her first time in an indoor arena to ride, are just the beginning of the path ahead of us. With all of this in mind, I get her saddled and go to sign up for our…

“It’s one thing to ride with your legs, but it’s another to ride with your heart” (Amberley Snyder). I find meaning behind this quote saying that a person who is physically skilled can ride a horse, but if they aren’t passionate about it, they will never be great. Amberley Snyder is a professional rider who’s defiantly lived out the idea that leg muscle is needed in horse riding. She faced a personal tragedy that would have destroyed many others, but to her it was just an obstacle to overcome. When Amberley lost her legs but continued her riding career it not only changed her but the whole equine world.…

I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…

While they started leading those four horses, Carrie, Mckenna, and I nervously followed home, and Patch decided to run ahead of us for the safe cover of home. All that was left for us to do next was to walk that half mile home in the rain. When we had finally gotten home we were all wet, cold, and fed up with all of the horses’ foolishness, but we still had to catch Patch, unsaddle the horses, and trailer them all back to the pasture. Surprisingly, once Patch got into our yard he stopped and allowed us to catch and unsaddle him. After putting away all the tack from the horses we had to bring them back to the pasture, so we loaded them all in the trailer and hauled them to the pasture.…
