Essay On Persistence Resilience

Persistence, resilience, and my strong determination were all characteristics I used since being told in an early elementary grade that I may never graduate high school. While at a parent teacher conference, my parents were told that I was not a fluent reader. The teacher felt my reading speed would as negatively impact my other core classes’ grades. The teacher told my parents that being a high school graduate and being a successful individual may not be realistic. To overcome such a label being placed on me took determination, persistence, and resilience. I began receiving assistance from the Title program at my school, and participated in summer school for four summers. The Title teacher believed in me and shared my goals of proving that …show more content…
I also want to experience the college life Iowa State has to offer. I have participated in several activities on the Iowa State campus such as FFA Convention, Robotics, and All-state Speech. During those events I felt that I had found my college of choice. I plan to pursue a career in agriculture and with Iowa State being one of the top colleges in the nation for ag and my comfort level while attending the events I participated in, I know Iowa state is for me. To have one of the top colleges relatively close to home is also a contributing factor. A few of my talents and skills were described above, but in addition I possess great leadership. I am currently the FFA president, STEM Club President, and Church youth group president. I also serve on the community Prosper committee that enhances positive youth development and strengthen families of which I am the only high school member, which shows my value of being a positive role model to other students. My work ethic and past experiences will make me a successful ISU student. Thank you for considering me for Christina Hixson Opportunity

I chose to attend the University of Central Oklahoma because I loved the area, and I felt that this college has a great atmosphere. It feels as if any freshman can come onto this campus, and adapt themselves within the first few minutes of being here. I find it very convenient that there is a vast majority of activities and clubs to get involved in, so no one feels like an outsider. The whole environment just rubs off on you in a good way. It's everything I wanted when I pictured living on a college campus.…

Middle School Mid-Life Crisis Middle school, a time of cringe worthy moments and regret. I like to refer to this story as my “Middle School Mid-Life Crisis”, since I questioned the purpose of going to school almost every day, and never felt motivated to do anything. Dreading almost every day of school, not having stable mental, emotional, or physical health, and feeling dissatisfied with myself as a student. My mind set was always on countdown mode, “I just have to make it through this class period. I only have 20 more problems to do.”…

Upper Class Student Interview As I sat down with upperclassman, Katie Klaes, an Osage native and Ag Business senior here at Iowa State University, I learned valuable information about Iowa State and the Ag Business program. Katie began her adventure at Iowa State in the fall of 2012 and is now in her final year working towards her degree in Ag Business, with a minor in Agronomy. When I asked Katie why she chose Iowa State she admitted that it was the only college she visited, but she fell in love with the campus and atmosphere Iowa State had to offer.…

My own experience as a five-year-old second-degree burn victim in the Glenwood Springs, Colorado small community hospital’s emergency room never evaporates from my adult decision-making. “You will hurt” was the message my seven-year-old sister relayed to me in our native Spanish language as the staff arduously worked to clean and debride my thigh. No translators were available, and my family circled in shared fear as well as linguistic isolation. Immigrant families who live in camper shells are certainly more at risk for childhood injuries, yet observing the compassionate and diligent efforts of trained medical professionals reacting to my accident sparked my current goal of becoming a Physician Assistant despite the financial and cultural…

I had an English professor once tell our class about his educational failures and how he was dismissed from his college after his second year. His college had told him that his grades were just not enough for their standards. He didn 't take what was given to him and surrender. Instead, he took stock of his life and worked his way back. It made him find a hunger to prove that he was deserving of the opportunity he had originally taken for granted.…
