Students shouldn't be forced into the role of a professional athlete. College is a time to learn, and whether a student wants to be an accountant or a professional athlete, they are not professional when still in school. As a student athletes, a student is able to gain access to a college education through the participation of their sport. Bottom line is a student athlete is an amateur, just like a student accountant, who marketing a choice to participate in a sport as overall educational experience. Paying students to play sports would totally ruin it the college sports industry. Athletes play sports in college for two reasons; the love of the game and the change to make it to the pros. If these students start getting paid, colleges and university athletic department would turn into enterprise and this would tarnish the college athletic system. The moment you start giving out money, even if it's a set amount, is the moment that college athletes cease to play sports solvent because they love the game. Eventually as with all jobs and workforces, the athletes would get disgruntled with the amount they were receiving. No matter how you dissect its, as soon as money is involved it becomes less about the pure competition and more about the dollar sign. The line between student and athletes often blurred epically at powerhouse program. Most college athletes (but not all ) are on some sort of scholarship which areas that their tuition is paid for as are their living expenses.
