My thesis is that Dr. King does a better job using Pathos than Logos.
I know that Dr. King uses more Pathos than any other type of persuasive appeals. It is because he is just better at that type of tug on the public's feelings. He is better at pathos it is because he is using certain emotional voice tremors along with certain words, Which he then tell dramatically, stirring up people's emotions and leaving them confused, which in turn makes it easier for him to play with their emotions just enough, to make it so that they feel strongly for his cause, but not to much that they would turn violent. That is what pathos does. It stirs up your emotions leaving you vulnerable to outside interference. And Dr. …show more content…
Now That I have begun my own little speech ( Martin Luther King Junior, eat your heart out.) I must at least show evidence as to my opinion. In this paragraph, I will show you a list of at least two different examples of Pathos, in which Dr. King uses that form of appeal correctly. My first, is when he is describing how hard it is to tell his little girl that she cannot go to a certain amusement park. “... When you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to explain to your six year old daughter why she can’t go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children…” ( Martin Luther King Junior, Letter from Birmingham jail.) I really like how much detail he put forth, and really, he’s asking them a question along with his statement meant. He’s asking them, ‘ How would you feel if that was your child that you are letting down, …show more content…
It is easy to say that Dr. King is better at pathos, just for the simplistic reason as to point out, that they are longer, and that he uses more. But in certain cases, certain speeches require a certain appeal, in this case pathos. But, Dr. King also does a bang up job on using logos.
My only tidbit of info, is when he describes why the group is taking direct action, instead of waiting. “The purpose of our direct action program, is to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation. I therefor concur with you in your call for negotiation.” ( Martin Luther King Junior, Letter from birmingham Jail). It is a good example of how Dr. King uses logos successfully, is how he uses facts to explain why they were protesting, and he thought far enough into the future to understand that these actions could potentially force them into
