Paid Paternity Leave: Mandatory for Employers to Offer In the United States, currently paternity leave is an issue for both employers and employees, on average women and men go back to their job(s), two weeks or less after their child(ren) are born. The first few weeks after having a child or children are the hardest, however too many parents are going back too soon. Employers should mandatorily offer paid paternity leave for new parents who currently end up going back to work too soon due to fear of losing their job, being unable to take the time off and or not being able to afford to be there with their family during that time. Too many men and women are feeling like they have to go back too early when they should not have to. While moms have been stereotyped as the more nurturing gender, in current times, dads have been starting to help out more around the house and with the upbringing of their kids. More men would like to help out at home more and want to be there, but feel they can not. Mandatory paid paternity leave will not only benefit the company that is giving it, but the families that receive it. Parents need the time to not only adjust to having their kid but to develop the habits of taking care of the kid and learn how to balance the house chores and personal time while both parents are home and can bond with their child as well. The parents being home helps them bond with their child and with each other as well. For mothers who have postpartum depression and some fathers, bonding with the baby doesn’t always come naturally so spending the time off with the child and their partner can help them bond not only with the baby but better with their
