When we think of a tragedy we usually think of a real disaster or a life where someone loses someone that they are close to or love. Williams Shakespeare’s play “Othello, the Moor of Venice” is a perfect drama play that gives you a little bit of tragedy. Shakespeare wrote the play during the renaissance in Venice and Cyprus. It was believed to be written around 1603. There were many details in this play to make it such a perfect drama. The play is about the story of Othello. Who was a Moorish general in the Venetian army. He just married Desdemona, the daughter of a Venetian nobleman. Othello is a soldier that has risen to a higher rank and has actually married into a great noble family. Othello is very respected by those around him. He is described by others as being “noble,” “brave,” and “valiant.” Since he is in a high rank position and because of how others respect him, he possesses the high stature commonly given to the tragic hero in order to make his fall seem more tragic. In this drama, the audience is not left with this feeling at all. Rather more of a horrific feeling because of the senselessness of all of the murdering and misjudgment. Their deaths really had no reason or great cause behind them. It was all because of lies, manipulation, and jealousy.
