Old Yeller
There is a yellow dog named Old Yeller. The character known as Papa, farms, and his family only makes a little bit of money. They need some more money so Papa left for Kanas and left this his son, Travis, in charge. Travis is 14 years old and has to take care of the house until Papa comes back in the fall. Before Papa left Travis talked to him about getting a horse but Papa suggested a dog, but Travis wanted a horse. Papa and Travis shook hands on getting a horse. Travis thought about his decision and wondered if he should get a dog. Travis used to have a dog-named Bell but he got himself killed by letting a rattlesnake bite him. Little Arliss likes the dog and wants to keep him and the mom says that they can. Travis doesn’t like the yeller dog and wants to get rid of it. Arliss plays with a bear cub and the mother bear was coming and Old yeller saved him when Travis couldn’t do anything to try and safe Arliss. After a while a Travis begins to like Old Yeller. Travis and Old Yeller go out and hunt. Travis likes this girl named Lisabeth Searchy and her dog is having puppies with Old Yeller. She tells Travis this because Old Yeller was eating their eggs and she didn’t ant the father of her puppies to get killed by being caught getting into things. Later on this man named, Burn Sanderson comes by the house to claim Old Yeller. Little Arliss doesn’t want him to take him, so Burn said that you could have the dog if the mother cooks up a good dinner. The family gets to keep dog and Burn tells Travis before he leaves about Hydrophobia is spreading around and he also said shoot any animals acting unnatural. The family is attacked by a wolf towards the end of the novel and Old Yeller saves them like he did with the bear, but this time Old Yeller got bit by the wolf and got infected.
