Despite my discomfort, I think I did a good job maintaining an open posture throughout the interview. A major personal discovery I made was that I tend to be expressive in my face. I noticed that I was doing pressing my lips together and at some points my eyes widened. This was namely due to the uncomfortable areas of the interview such as Betty beginning to sing and the moments when she was highly upset. During those points of the interview, I felt as if I kind of lost some control over the flow of the interview. With regards to my client’s non-verbal communication, I noticed that Betty was leaning on Freddy, her caregiver, a great deal. Throughout the interview, Freddy had his arms around her to comfort her during times of distress. To me, this indicated that there is probably a very close relationship and that he is not only involved but also protective of her. On the other hand, Betty’s non-verbals were fluctuating a great deal, this was a telling sign that I should use more of a calm vocal tone when addressing her to prevent me from provoking any unsettling
