Essay On Nursing School

When I think of an event that has influenced my academic work it would have to be nursing school. Nursing school was an experience that has forever changed my life. When applying to nursing school I was not sure that would get in because, the program was in such high demand. I worked very hard in my prerequisite classes because I knew I had to do my very best in order to just get in to the program. Once I found out that I had gotten in to the program I was so relieved, and for a moment I thought now the hard work was over because I got accepted. Boy was I wrong! It only got harder from there. Next, it was time for the NCLEX. This is an examination that must be passed in order to begin practicing as a nurse. This test was like no other test I had ever taken. I studied, and studied, and then studied some more. Test day came and still I felt so unprepared. I wanted to quit, I was scared of failing but I pressed on and to my surprise I passed, the first time! I was completely elated, and again I thought, “I did it, it is REALLY over now!” Again, I was wrong. Next, it was time to look for a job. I thought this part would be a piece of cake. I had heard for years about the nursing shortage. I had never had a problem getting a job in the past. But this time was much different I put in application after application and after 3 months of diligently searching with no bites at all I felt completely frustrated and just wanted to throw my hands up in the air and say, “forget it!” But I didn’t, I kept on searching and finally landed my first nursing job.
