Nethania continues to work on her current goal that states, "Given a reading text at her instructional level, Nethania will make predictions, draw inferences, and access prior knowledge to support reading comprehension by using vocabulary, graphic organizers, and anticipatory guides, with 80% accuracy in 4/5 trials." Nethania participated in the Reading Plus program from August 2016-May 2017. Her average comprehension score on level one reading lessons was 88% with her highest skills in the area of Interaction of Ideas, Main Idea/Themes, and Imaging Scaffolds. Nethania continues to participate in the REading Plus program this year. Nethania appeared to not take the reading assessment seriously and her score was not reflective of her capabilities. In English 10, Nethania was given a comprehension assessment on short stories where she scored at the mastery level in determining a theme or central idea of a text. Nethania scored at the near mastery level in the area of citing strong evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Nethania scored at the remedial level in the area of analyzing how complex characters develop over the text and author's choice of text structure, the order of events, and mood. Her overall score on the short story assessment was a 46% as compared to the class average score of 50%. Current work sample scores that measure a variety of comprehension questions on informational passages are as follows: 70%, 61%, and 72%. Nethania's scores on comprehension questions on literary passages were as follows: 58%, 53%, and 64%. When given an informational passage to read and decode words in context, Nethania scored a 43% as compared to the class average of 73%. Students at grade level can use their knowledge of text structure to organize content information, analyze and draw inferences from a variety of reading
