By cutting out activities in high school such as lunch or study hall, the meticulous hours spent at school become open to the discretion of every student. Sometimes, this augmentation of time may be misjudged or misused by the student and many times health and academics reep the consequences. When an individual finds a routine that works for them, success and happiness tend to follow. When a student lacks balance, and immediate desires consistently trump their responibilities, students may develop poor nutrition habits, poor sleep schedules, and even addiction. On the other hand, with this new influx in time, students now have the opportunity to break out of their shells, and pursue passions that they might have been able to do before. Consequences of bad behavior such as theft, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, or even assault will most likely land a student in jail. In addition, some colleges may take scholarships back, and even force athletes to sit out for a certain amount of games,. These incidents are documented on each individuals record, and may even effect future job oppurtunities. In addition, the consequences of failing to make school a priority results in even bigger problems, including poor grades and even losing their place in school. In high school, academic motivation most likely came from teachers, peers, and even parents; encouraging the student to stay focused, and to always do their best. As a sharp contrast; academic motivation in college is now completely dependent upon the student and their willingness to reach their goals. For example, a college student may spend 10 hours diligently studying for a test, only to receive an F. However unfair it may seem, the only person that can be held responsible for the grade is the student. Almost all universities offer academic help such as study rooms, tutoring sessions, and even sets of notes, drafted by designated note takers. But, if a student is struggling and refuses to seek help, not only will they miss out on oppurtunities that are a part of tuition, but may also end up with poor grades, sometimes not even passing the
