Technology Negatively Affects Society We have become a society that cannot survive without technology. Technology has a negative effect on society because it separates us from reality. Technology affects us because we cannot let things such as our laptop, phone, game systems, and iPod out of reach. Three major types of technology that negatively affect us are cell phones, laptops, and game systems because it distracts us and makes us less productive. We are constantly glued to our phones looking for the latest trends. Over the last few decades, cellular devices, iPads, iPods, computers, and most importantly the internet have completely overhauled the way people interact in society and the way educators work in schools. This article explains how the internet is very resourceful for us because we can search anything we want to. It also mentions that technology is a huge distraction for so-ciety. Since, we have technology,we cannot bare to leave our devices out of reach for a couple of minutes. “Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages. I get fidgety, lose the thread, and begin looking for something else to do. I feel as if I am always dragging my wayward brain back to the text. The deep reading that used to come naturally has become a struggle,” (314) We sometimes act as if technology is more important than our lives, which may be true because we can’t bare to separate ourselves from our devices. This article helps show how society may be like in the near future. It shows how much technology is a true distraction. For instance, every day we receive many phone calls, whether they are important or not, and it takes our mind off the task. Although we feel agitated with the quick interruption, we end up staying on the device. Especially when we have internet at hand. We receive so many notifications that just do not stop ringing until we view the message. It does bother me because it distracts me from the task I am trying to focus
