Essay On My Writing Technology

Growing up in an era where writing technologies are developing rapidly has shape and challenge my writing process drastically as an elementary and college student. Growing up with crayons, pencils and pens were just the beginning. From what I remember from my toddler’s years, I recall being pressured by my teachers to have a perfect handwriting that others would be able to understand. Penmanship and creating well-structures letters were the main purpose during my toddles years and early elementary school years. I remember doing a lot of writing to picture-perfect my handwriting. The main purpose is to keep on going in a circular motion as fast as you can without getting out the lines. As Porter mentions in his article “Teaching each other new writing technologies” (379). Teaching each new ways of writing and how to use new technologies not only impacts our writing, but it also challenges our understanding of new writing technologies. For instance when my mother was first introduced to Face Book she had no idea on how to work the technology. I then gave her some mini lessons and eventually she was another member of the Face Book community. Then it came the technology of typewriters and computers. One moment I recall from my middle school year was that each student was required to take a class where they would teach us how to type properly and use different programs. Now being in college when it comes to my writing. All my writing is done on a desktop or laptop. It’s very rare when I write with paper and pen. Writing technologies have definitely influenced my writing practices growing up. In my opinion, it takes less time to type your ideas and thoughts than to write them down.
