Essay On My Writing Style

As I look back to the writing I have done the past couple of years the first things I think of are rushed deadlines, automated essay prompts and constant cramming. Throughout my high school years the focus of writing assignments shifted from a method of self expression to a type of formula needed to pass many of the Advanced Placement exams. Although I did enjoy the freedom writing gave in my younger years when I was still given an opportunity to voice my thoughts and opinions, I have not grown fond of the writing style imposed upon me during my later high school years. The assignments were regurgitated College Board prompts given to me and my classmates by a teacher trying to prepare us for an exam that would not just reflect on us, but ultimately brand their reputation as a teacher. The goal of writing was neither to properly express and communicate with the world, nor was it to simply become better writers for our own benefit; it was to learn the formula in order to do well on a single exam. Years’ worth of writing assignments where I could have learned to find my personal style, my voice per se, were plagued by a single goal.
The gaps of my past classes are clear. I have been trained to write quickly (within the Ap time window of course) and deliver preferred answers. I lack knowledge on how to completely develop ideas in a way that can be

My true fear is that I may struggle to write beyond a “well written” essay. I want to develop a personality within my writing, a signature of my personae. I want to be able to expand my capabilities beyond the formula that I was taught to put into repetition. Even as a write this essay I feel constrained to a certain style, unable to pass a certain parameter, whatever it may

In this fall semester of college what I’ve learned in Ms. Balderas class is knowing how to properly write a college written essay. I know after taking this course that I can somewhat write a well written essay that is college appropriate. In high school I was taught to write essay that were good enough for the teachers, but now that I’m in college I feel the need that I need to write better and show my instructor that I do know what I am writing about. I’ve learned so many ways to write a paper, but some of my essays aren’t there yet, I feel as if I haven’t gotten to the point where I’ve learned to write a paper that is good, but I know within time I’ll get there.…

When it comes to producing academic papers my writing style remains adaptive to meet the rhetorical context of a specific course. Meaning, my focus and attention is directed towards proper formatting, and writing a paper that engages a reader. My process involves narrowing in on a topic, gathering sources, free style writing, creating an outline, writing a draft, revisions, and then producing a final…

My writing experience in and out of school has almost always been seen exactly the same. It’s work, you do it for the grade and for some you suffer the entire time. On the occasional paper, usually one with no restrictions and you choose your subject, I find myself in a love and hate relationship with it. The fact being that writing papers has almost always been seen as homework for me. Have your paper done by this day, it needs to be this many words, and no grammatical errors just isn’t something I’d find myself getting hyped for every saturday night.…

As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more. Past Experiences with Writing Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. In high school, I took my basic English & Writing courses, along with an Advanced Placement English IV course, in which the teacher persuaded me to join the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and compete in the Ready Writing Competition, in which I won first place in the…

I think that paraphrasing will be the hardest for me to avoid while writing. It seems that sometimes it is hard to write or summarize something that is so well written already. The way I will work around that is to stop and re-read what I am wanting to summarize, take a few important words out of the material I am reviewing and jot those down, then go back and write what is needed to complete my sentence or idea. Once I have completed my writing, I will review and make sure I have properly cited my work. Using the guidelines discussed in our “Read Section”, and following the instructions listed on how to source correctly should avoid paraphrasing mistakes and plagiarism.…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

Well, I consider myself to be a decent writer, even though writing is not my strong point. Therefore, as I have come to the completion of my degree, I have learned numerous writing skills along the way. I learned the MLA style, when I started taking my basics in college and the APA style for my upper division courses. At times I get confused on the formats as I consider them to be similar in some ways. Furthermore, they differ and each has its own different style of quoting and citation in articles, books, phrases, etc.…

What are some writing strategies I have incorporated into my writing style? Until this year I have never used a specific way of writing, I have always just written down what comes to my mind and then edited it to make it sound better. While being in dual English I have learned some new skills that will have a significant change in my writing, and I have decided to start incorporating these writing strategies to help my writing skills grow, they are, brainstorming, outlining what I am going to be writing about and how I am going to write about it, and using writing patterns to follow a map of how my essay is going to be written, through the use of these writing strategies my writing skills have greatly improved in just a short amount of time.…

My literacy journey has been one that I am grateful for thus far. Throughout the years, my family and my teachers have been at the core of my literacy. The various teachers and professors who have taught me have really played a big role in ensuring that I have become as literate as they could possibly prepare me. My parents and siblings have always been a big part of this journey, especially in reading. They have supported me by encouraging me to read as many books as possible.…

One of the very first memories I had as a child was lying in bed at night and listening to my mom read stories to me. I would always have my pajamas lying in my bunk bed in my blue paint colored room. Every night before bed I would curl up next to her in bed and pick several books for her to read. As I got older, I would pick bigger, harder, and longer books to read.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
