My Responsibilities to America
“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” Harry S. Truman penned these words. We all have jobs, or responsibilities as American citizens. As Americans we have a responsibility to be an informed voter, a responsibility to support the Constitution, a responsibility to put America first, just to name a few. Responsibilities should not be mistaken for rights. All Americans have rights. Supreme Court’s Ability to Deem Laws Unconstitutional I, an American born and raised, fully support and and justify the Supreme Court’s power to overturn unconstitutional laws. I believe judicial review is vital to the protection of citizen’s natural and legal rights, and without the ability to overturn said unconstitutional laws our country could face utter corruption. For the sake of protecting our country’s citizens it is imperative that unconstitutional laws are not passed, thus preventing the jeopardization of our country’s freedom. America, known to all as the land of the free, home of the brave, but before all this was possible our liberties and freedoms were controlled by the British.…

An individual’s life belongs to only that individual, so people should make choices that are right for them regardless of what others may think and value. The protection of individual rights had been a trademark of American politics even before the American Revolution and they were highlighted in the bill of rights. Unity and diversity, are two interconnected ideals that have defined and built American culture.…

It would have been far more beneficial to them to go back to Europe and deal with the religious rules, but they knew that it would help future generations even more if they stayed to start a country. This is the mindset we need to adopt, today. In America, today, you will rarely find a person who cares more about the country America is becoming than the America that makes and enforces the laws he has to live by.…

As an American, it is one’s duty to support and stand for the views of the United States through various policies, human rights, and the classic American ideals. However, over the years, these ideas and interpretation of rights have often changed. We have seen this though radical new laws that would have never been accepted a few centuries ago. Some of these new policies are things such as the legalizing same-sex marriage through the entire nation, legalizing medical marijuana, or death with dignity policies. While there have been many things added to the American system, such as these laws, there have also been many things taken out, such as the military draft.…
