There are many challenges facing the older population today including stereotypes and discrimination. After studying these social issues I have become more aware of the problems facing the aging population. At the same time, I question what changes will come about in the next 50 years, when I will be a part of this population. Currently, I am considered a double minority because of my race and gender; however, when I reach a certain age I will also be regarded as old. I am very curious to the lifestyle I will live during that time. This paper will focus on my reflection of what I learned so far and how that will impact my life when I am 75.

Mainly because I have no medical history of my biological family. This means that I could have a history of cancer in my family and not even know it. For this reason, I take my health seriously. I work out and eat right to the best of my abilities. I do not know what I am more susceptible to, so to decrease my chances I want to cover my bases by maintaining proper health habits. When I envision myself as a 75-year-old woman I want to be healthy enough to be able to perform basic ADLs. I am basing this on the current retirement issues. I am not sure when I will stop working although I know that individuals who retire now retire around the age of 50 or so. My own mother retired in her mid-50s, but this will not be the case for my generation. As discussed in class, people are living longer and fertility is decreasing this means that my generation will most likely work longer and retire later in life. All things consider when I am 75 I may still be working or just retired a few years prior. Another reason why I expect to have limited funds during my retirement is because of personal experience. Everyone I know that is retired doesn’t live wealthy. Although, I do expect this for me I hope that I will have savings to let me live
