Essay On My Ideal Life

Improved Essays
Simple, Clean & Organized. These are three words in my mind now. Yes, I like my home simple, clean and organized, but shortly I felt my home is back to messy and clutter. Thanks for the interesting book I’ve read 2 weeks ago, it inspire and change the way I want to tidy up now. So instead just going through my stuff, wipe the dust, and put in back in place. I follow 6 basic rules of tidying from “Konmari” method and set myself a new system to clean and organized my home.

6 basic rules of tidying:
1- Commit yourself to tidying up. Well, once you start, don’t give up in the middle. Like she said it’s a marathon, got to finish till the end.
2- Imagine your ideal lifestyle. Visualize myself living in clutter-free, clean and tidy space. I inspire the Japanese style, they are simple yet functional. It is my dream, my ideal lifestyle I want to be in.

Discard things that no longer useful before store everything back.
4- Tidy by category, not by location. We tend to put same item in different places, a very good example I have is my makeup product, I’ve got some in the washroom and some in my own room, if I tidy by location, I will be cleaning same category twice.
5- Follow the Right Order. Start with clothing, then books, paper and miscellaneous.
6- Ask yourself if it spark joy. Keep the one you love, and if you don’t love them, they no longer “spark joy” to yourself.

So my declutter campaign began. I started with my closet, put all my clothes on my bed, and sort out category by category. I kept the essential clothes and clothes that I love to wear and makes me happy. I put all the unfit, wore out, not my style, and never want to wear item to a donation bag. I’m happy that my mountains of clothes has become a hill now, and I like to share what I had kept now.

The story “Mess” by John Hollander is interesting take on the concept on cleanliness and how the human mind perceives it. Hollander starts out his essay by giving an example of how different people react to a mess. He refers to the subjects as X and Y. He states that what may seem messy to X, could be perfectly neat and orderly to Y. Hollander even goes as far to say that if Y had a pile a books, and X arranged all the books into a neat stack, the neat stack could appear to be utter chaos to Y. After this profound example, the article continues to go on and list all the different kind of messes that exist in our lives. Hollander breaks the messes into different categories such as outdoor messes, indoor messes, personal states, and personal appearance messes.…
