Every birthday well just in my household at least, no matter how old we are turning we make sure everyone gets a birthday cake. We always come to my parent’s house and every birthday we all gather around and sing “Happy Birthday” and let the person blow out their candles. Now for holiday’s we always have Christmas at my parent’s house and actually last year we finally started a secret Santa so nobody would feel left on Christmas day. Everyone in my family are Christians so every Christmas morning we make breakfast, play gospel music then eventually we all finally open up our gifts. Every thanksgiving and Christmas dinner is at my parent’s house, it has been like that every year and it has never changed. All of those traditions were started by my grandmother I believe and once she passed my mother kept it going and now that I am older I will make sure I keep it going just in case others in my family try to change

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

Family has, subjectively, many different definitions. Some might say only those related by blood and marriage are family, others might say family friends should be considered family, and even further some say that anyone deemed worthy can be called family. Whatever definition of family is used it is important to remember that a perfect family is next to impossible to possess. Family is family regardless of conflicts, separations, or anything else.…

If I have learned anything about history, it is that not everyone has the pleasure of knowing their story or past glory. Archived memories and experiences create scenes of the past that we can feel and relive if told in the right light. Family is an important treasure that only some get the privilege of cherishing; blood or bond, family is what holds us when the world lets us go. Going back to the day my grandmother was born, it began the lives of the people I know and love today and has shaped the way we behold and appreciate one another in the present and future. My family history is based on the retrieval of past memories, the struggle for self-preservation and the gravity of connectedness in family relationships.…

    Importance Of Family Essay

Marriage and family formation are seen as important life transitions in this respect. Marriage embeds individuals within a network of extended family and friends, and child bearing and home ownership are associated with greater levels of neighbourhood attachment and involvement (Glezer 1997: 9). In addition, families are seen as the key site for the transmission of behavioural norms (Winter 2000).
