Some of them expected me to be just like them, what I believed and how I behaved. It was hard for them to understand that I could not be like them because we have been raised differently in different environments. I could not speak good and fluent English like them. I had to learn on how to adjust to suit some of their expectation like how to communicate with them however some of the expectations which they had on me gave me a lot of pressure. Some of the assumptions which Americans had about me and my country of origin were wrong. For instance, most of the Americans believe that Muslims are terrorists. I am a Muslim and I come from south Arabia and I am not a terrorist. Some of them discriminated me because of this aspect because they assumed I could harm them which was a false assumption. I had a lot of pressure to fit in some groups because they would openly discriminate me. Discrimination and stereotyping was one of the main issues which I had to deal with when I came to the United States of America
In conclusion, my experience with social identity during my time in America was different. It had both positive side and a negative side. I learned a lot from other cultures and it was one of my best experience for me. My worse experience was discrimination and stereotyping because I come from a different ethnic
