I was surrounded by intimidating upperclassmen in a class that required a lot of hard work and communication skills. I went in the class knowing nothing, as I had expected. I walked into the class knowing no one. I sat in the class by myself while everyone was catching up with each other after not seeing one another for a summer. As class began, the new journalism teacher, Mrs. Robinson, walked in. I always felt like I connected with her from the beginning because we had two things in common: we were both new and we had no idea what we are doing. Since there were seven people on staff, all with specific jobs and leaderships, Mrs. Robinson didn 't do much other than supervise. The main person in charge was the Editor in Chief, Jen. To be elected to that position, you had to be a senior and someone who had the leadership and skills to lead the staff. She was the funny, awkward girl that that could make anyone laugh. There was one girl that stood out to me. Her name was Grace. She came up to me and started talking to me and made me feel welcomed in the class. While I was given tons of work to work on, Grace was always there for me to talk me through everything I needed to do. Because of Grace, I opened up and ended up connecting with everyone on staff. I became friends with people that I probably would have never talked to if it were not for the class. I developed communication skills from interviewing students for stories or infographics in the yearbook. I learned to express my ideas with other students and to listen to others ideas and expand from there. Becoming Editor in Chief, helped me learn leadership skill and how to be in charge and still maintain my friendship with everyone. Because of this experience, I learned communication skills, organization skills, and leadership skills that not only furthered my education, but would help me in
