Introduction
Pluralistic societies are established by the diverse ethnic groups that inhabit our homes, jobs, and culture and make it their own through the rights of the multiculturalism policy in Canada. Diversity within communities provides opportunity to engage with multiple ethnic groups which can lead to stronger communication between countries which can increase economic growth. By creating connections with multiple cultures, it can open opportunity to new alliances and trade agreements. By being able to understand the values of other cultures, it strengthens national identity by exploring other strengths in other cultures. Innovation is increased by creating knowledge through altering original values and creating shared values that can coexist with Canadian citizens and incoming immigrants. Also, with the creation of values that accommodate to most citizens, it gives newcomers and citizens the right to share their own ideas without judgement due to the freedom of speech. This allows for a more organized structure in Canada, which leads to maintaining National unity. “National unity… must be founded on confidence in one’s own individual identity… respect others and the willingness to share ideas” Berry (1998). Allowing immigrants to vote during elections allows for that sector of politics to stabilize. Due to immigrants being granted citizenship, it would influence them to become more involved in electoral processes since their home country might not have provided democratic rights to allow them to be involved in political processes. As of recently, Vatican City is the remaining country that does not allow women to vote for the new Pope. However, in countries such as Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, would be allowed to vote, however there is low female participation. “This occurs because of social or cultural traditions; women in a very traditionally patriarchal society may feel uncomfortable voting” (Dewey, 2013). The evidently demonstrates how involvement in electoral processes in Canada would be significant for newcomers to
