It was September of 2008 when I met my third grade teacher, Mrs. Marez. The teacher that completely changed my life and encouraged me to become the person that I am today. Mrs. Marez is a hard working invidividual who is always paying attention to her student and assisting them with everything they need. I met Mrs. Marez the first day of school, I still remember walking into her classroom terrified of not being able to communicate with her. Mrs. Marez was my first teacher that was not bilingual and it was frightening for me because I had always communicated in Spanish with my teachers. Marez about my life and where I came from, I informed her about the difficult times I had to go through when first starting school. Mrs. Marez would always pay attention and advise me, she helped me become a fluent English speaker, reader, and writer; she helped me overcome every single challenged that I faced at my young age. Mrs. Marez was an amazing individual that motivated me to always better myself, but it was towards the end of the school year when she completely changed my life. I still remember that day like it was yesterday, Mrs. Marez was walking the class to lunch when she suddenly approached me. She joyfully asked me if I had ever thought about joining GATE classes, at the time I was not aware of what those courses were. I informed Mrs. Marez that I did not have an interest towards such courses simply because I was not aware of the differences between my classes and GATE classes. She informed me about the classes and stated that I belonged there because the were advanced classes. After that day Mrs. Marez motivated me every single day to join Gate courses. She commenced to help me become a better student and assisted me to become a successful student. I commenced to study, participate in class, and think about my
