“The most important human endeavor is the striving for morality in our actions. Our inner balance and even our very existence depend on it. Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to life. To make this a living force and bring it to clear consciousness is perhaps the foremost task of education. The foundation of morality should not be made dependent on myth nor tied to any authority lest doubt about the myth or about the legitimacy of the authority imperils the foundation of sound judgment and action” (Albert Einstein). Morality is the extent to which an action is right or wrong. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in 1930. The author uses memorable characters to view civil rights and racism back then. The story is told through the eyes of Scout Finch, I read about her father Atticus, and her brother Jem. The amount of media is an amazing thing some of the time. The other rest of the time is trying to get away from it. Every time I watch the news something bad has happened whether it be tsarism, war, presidential campaign, global warming and the list goes on. I think that this is all because of these morals that people learn through their lives can influence their actions in the world, and if all they see is war, tsarism, and etcetera. All on their media and no one teaches them wrong from right they take what they see in the media and that’s their morals. Now back in the nineteen-thirties there wasn't much media. However, in the book scout reveals that her dad always reads the newspaper. “He’s so tired at night he just sits in the living room and reads”(22). Back then there was not that much media in comparison to today at least. But Sadly I am not Scout, and this Is the world that this generation and I will grow up and see it be fixed or get worse and worse to the point where right from wrong is unheard

Scout Finch: Sins Versus Sincerity Hypocritical characters, such as Alexandra and Mrs. Gates, are exceedingly present in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Lee also uses characters of utmost integrity to foil these hypocrites. The polarity of these themes can prove confusing and upsetting to immature youth. Therefore Scout Finch’s development of maturity was a result of her untimely comprehension of the variations between hypocrisy and integrity.…

Throughout Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch displays moral integrity. One of the first times this is evident is the way he reacts to Jem wanting to shoot his air rifle. Atticus tells Jem, “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird (119). This shows Atticus wants to share his knowledge of morals with Jem. He wants Jem to understand when it's the right time time harm or kill a living creature and every thing has a purpose for living.…

Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. There are many displays of prejudice in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Tom Robinson case, Maycomb judging Mr. Dolpus Raymond and Atticus defending Tom Robinson. The town of Maycomb claims Tom Robinson is guilty just because of the fact that he is a black man and Mayella is a white woman. Maycomb also claims that Mr. Dolpus Raymond is just the towns drunk, and that's why he married a black man and has mixed raced children. The town judges Atticus for defending Tom Robinson, a black man, just because of his race.…

In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, despite the long-held feelings of his community, Atticus Finch stands as a sterling example of a man of principle who is willing to practice his moral values. This is shown in many ways throughout the novel, and will be highlighted in this essay. First, Atticus shows his long-held feelings about Maycomb, while speaking to Jem and Scout following the trial, “ I don’t know, but they did it. They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it-seems that only children weep.…

To Kill a Mockingbird explores the moral nature of human beings in a time before the civil rights movement. The story begins from the perspective of childhood innocence, where it is assumed that people are good since they have never seen evil, but it later shifts to a more mature perspective, in which they have confronted evil and now must incorporate it into their understanding of the world. Lee’s overall message was to portray that humans, rather than being merely creatures of good or creatures of evil, have both good and bad qualities. This is largely reflected in the character, Atticus Finch, who is unique in the novel because he has experienced and understood evil without losing his faith in the human capacity for goodness. He teaches this practice to his two children, Jem and Scout, where Scout’s development as a character in the novel is defined by her gradual progress toward understanding Atticus’s lessons.…
