Essay On Minimum Driving Age

The minimum driving age should not be raised from 16 to 18. In my opinion, teens already have a problem getting where they need to go considering their transportation is usually their parents. By the time they come home from work they are too exhausted to drive anywhere else. Starting out early than waiting until one becomes a legal adult to drive gives a teenager an opportunity to exercise responsibility and to have some independence. Just because teens are prone to do reckless, irresponsible things does not necessarily mean they will get into accidents because they are younger. Being a teenager comes with a lot of social priorities, aside from going to school. A lot of teens may not have the wealthiest family and sometimes their parents may ask them to get a job to help around financially. As a person gets older and successes through each grade, more is expected of them. They will have to volunteer more, do things that will look good on their applications for jobs and even college. Teens also balance their social life with clubs and even sports. Being a teen also includes having a break every now and then and no teen like depending on a “maybe” from their parent to take them to the mall or a friend’s house to stay the night over. Teens will be able where they need to go without getting rides, they become more responsible and they get some independence, and just because teens are known to do reckless things does not always mean their age is the problem. Letting teens have the privilege to drive gives them a feel of independence, their first serious thing in their life to take care of. Being able to drive opens so many doors for a teenager because they will be available. Teens need all the knowledge they can get before they go off on their own.
