Today we woke up early to go sing at the Middle School in Neustiff. We performed in a gym but they had set it up nicely in order to accommodate us. We got a much better reaction from the kids. As I mentioned in my last note, we had noticed that this headmaster was much more welcoming then the last one, so that was reflected with the kids too. After we preformed our concert I was able to talk with a teacher who said that they were never expecting us to preform so well. This was very nice to hear. They even gave us money for it, which was very unexpected. And I got to talk with some of the children. They were very eager to know if I preferred Barcelona to Madrid or to tell me how to say certain words in German. It was a lot of fun and much more …show more content…
During this reception I was able to really get a feel for the culture and interact with the Austrians one on one. One person in particular that Will and I grew close to was Josef’s son Raphael. He was only 15 years old but he was very mature for his age. We talked about his experience with the choir with the church, with his school and we also talked a lot about fußball. He invited us to come play with him this weekend if we had time. It was amazing to interact with the people of Fulpmes. They are so kind and respectful. From my reading I knew that all social interactions are firstly formal, and it was encouraging to be treated like an adult by people I had just met. In comparing to America I found that the people are much nicer and generous as a whole. I don’t know what to attribute it to but everyone seems very forgiving if you accidentally do something wrong, and it makes it easier to adapt to the culture when people are understanding. I just realized that adapting to a culture could sometimes be just as much work for those who are native to the culture as it is for the newcomers. If they are understanding and willing to forgive then the newcomer can learn and not worry about being made fun of or constantly criticized, and learn from their mistakes instead of being ostracized for

I walked in and stopped abruptly, halting busy traffic. This scene was like nothing I had ever experienced before. Music blasted singing out from the speakers and echoing off of the walls of the auditorium. Shouts filled the room, overpowering the upbeat tunes, as kids, staff, and volunteers cheered for their villages. Lights flashed all around the room revealing huge signs for only split seconds at a time.…

Transitioning from middle school to high school is scary enough, not to mention finding out that your best friends won’t be attending that same school adds a little pressure on a pre-teen who, for the most part is really shy. When I first started high school I had a cousin who was a year older than me, she showed me around school and I ended up hanging out with her and her friends for a few months. Then she introduced me to some of her newer friends who were in the same grade as me. They were nice people and they got me through the first year of high school, but I never felt like I belonged to “their group”.…

Sixth grade for was one of my most difficult years of my life so far for a few reasons. First off, sixth grade was my first year of middle school, meaning a whole new school, new school system with class schedules, lockers, multiple teachers, and having passing periods were all new concepts for me to grasp as a kid. More importantly however, the second reason sixth grade was so difficult for me was that over the summer leading to that school year, me and my family left the Catholic church that my mom’s family had been going to for about a hundred years or so, and it was a completely different environment for our entire family because we spent the entire summer up to the first week of school looking for a new church in our area, going to a new…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

He likes to play cars and rough house with his buddies especially on the playground. T.J. has had ups and down throughout my observation period at the child development center. The second half of the observations I have noticed that T.J. has at times secluded himself from interacting with his fellow classmates. In other aspects of development he has progressed such as in speaking and vocabulary since the start of me observing him.…

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…
