Definition of Man Advertisement companies are always using different materials and tactics to make their products seem very appealing to the buyer. Whether that be using famous actors or athletes, or even using the average person, to get their product sold. In this Nike advertisement featuring Michael Jordan, the advertisers use visual elements to make the impression that masculinity means to be popular, record breaking, skilled, athletic, determined, and successful. This definition by Nike is completed by using a famous legendary athlete, use of text, his stance, his facial expression, and the background of him being in space as he is dunks home the point for the Chicago Bulls.

This element is effectively showing his great athleticism to get that high enough to hit the rim with his head. Michael Jordan is also using his strength gripping the ball with one hand, and getting ready to slam home the ball with great power. His powerful explosion to get off the ground and get up so high is displaying his great athletic ability. Jordan demonstrates his great talent in being able to handle the ball with one hand as he is preparing to dunk with that same hand. His body turned around as he is doing a 180 dunk, using his talent to the fullest potential.
This advertisement has many different effective visual elements, but one of the most effective was by showing his facial expression. His determination is shown in the advertisement by the intensity on Michael Jordan’s face. The sweat shown dripping from Michael Jordan’s face allows the viewer to understand his determination of trying to reach the ultimate goal of putting the ball through the hoop.
