One of the major reasons why I disagree with Merit Pay is that success is difficult to describe and measure. The No Child Left Behind Act says that all primary and secondary schools are accountable to higher standards. The No Child Left Behind Act also provides more opportunities for parents, school choices and places a greater emphasis on reading in schools. NCLB is written so that it requires 100% of the students, including special education students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds within a school to reach the same set of state standards in math and reading. I believe that teachers pay should not be determined by the learning capabilities of their students.
