Legalization
The question of the legalization of medical marijuana has been an on-going epidemic for many years. Many people have different view-points on this subject. Even though others opinionate that marijuana should be illegal because of the harsh effects on the body, the government should legalize medical marijuana because of all the health benefits is has toward people with medical marijuana. One of the most widely-used medical uses for this drug is to reduce the pain that patients experience from diseases that they have. Over the years, the support for the legalization of marijuana has tripled. There are many people that see the benefits of this drug for patients who truly need it. (Bednar 36-53) Many people are fighting for the use of recreational marijuana all over the country. The drug has been legalized in only a few states for recreational use. Seventeen states have lowered the punishment for possession of small amounts of marijuana. Votes began in 2012 in Colorado and Washington to legalize the drug for any use. (Bednar 36-53) On the other hand, there are some risks to marijuana. Drug dependence and compulsive addiction are statically proven to have been resulted from the use of marijuana. There is a greater chance of a physical or mental disability, and it causes structural or neurochemical changes in the human brain. (Bednar 36-53) After much use of marijuana there is a subsequent development of schizophrenia and other disorders. Withdrawal symptoms can be compared to that of nicotine. 30% of marijuana users end up having a drug disorder which results with them feeling restless, irritable, and having trouble sleeping.
