Men and women around the country take an oath to become a marine. They dedicate their lives to protect our freedom and security. Not only do they protect us, but they are what America stands for. Marines are one of the most valuable branches to the United States military because they are well trained, loyal men and women, who have fought and fight for America.
Marines have to meet certain qualifications before they can be enlist. To become a marine you have to be at least 17 years old at the time of enlistment and 20 years old at time of commissioning to become a officer. They require that you must be under the age of 29 at time of enlistment and 28 at time of commissioning. You need to be a legal citizen of United States and have proof of residency. Enlistment requires a high school diploma and a physical examination. Officers must have earned a bachelor's degree (Requirements). Once you have meant all these qualifications than you are able to go to bootcamp.
There are several places they may send you for training. They can send you to MCRD Parris Island or MCRD San Diego for enlistment. You have to graduate from the school of infantry(SOI) or marine combat training(MCT) and …show more content…
The Second Continental Congress made a resolution to raise two battalions of marines. They fought for independence during the American Revolutionary War on land and at sea. They were able to help fight for our independence from Britain. Marines have won many battles since then such as; The Battle of Derna, The Battle of Chapultepec, Pacific Operations, The Battle of Belleau Wood, and many others. They have fought in many battles for us and to protect other nations from threats(Timeline). Marines have remained loyal and have fought for America over 240
