Mary’s Earthly Apparitions Besides the four Marian Dogmas of the Catholic Church, Mary has inspired the lives of millions of people across the world. Mary is the Church’s leading intercessor for prayer, and she considered to be the patroness of humanity. Something truly miraculous that Catholic’s believe in regarding Mary is Marian apparitions. A Marian apparition is a supernatural appearance of the Blessed Mother Mary here on earth. The three most famous accounts of Marian apparitions occurred in Lourdes, Fatima, and Guadalupe. The city of Lourdes is located in southern France, and was the home to a young girl named Bernadette. While searching for firewood, the young fourteen year old saw the Blessed Mother in a grotto by the river. The appearances became a regular thing and Mary instructed Bernadette to do multiple tasks such as pray for sinners, build a church at this site, and drink from the spring. The spring is something extra special and unique to Lourdes because the spring did not exist originally until Bernadette was instructed to dig for it …show more content…
Mary is now a global icon and role model for mothership and womanhood. Her interactions with humans on earth have only solidified Catholics extreme love and devotion to her. She is now an icon among millions of the faithful. She is often portrayed in the color blue representing human life. Pictures of her usually include twelve golden stars representing the twelve tribes of Israel and in icons she has three stars representing the three aspects of her perpetual virginity. Her flower is a rose; the flowers turned to roses in the story of Guadalupe, there were two yellow roses at her feet in Lourdes, and people who are around her presence reports smells and sightings of roses. Catholics believe in these apparitions and the promises of Mary’s word as well as her intercession for prayer creating a special and unique relationship with
