Music has always been a major part of my life. Being part of Satellite’s music program has not only furthered my passion for music, but has impacted me more than words can describe. The positive influence this program and all of its current and former members has had on me encourages me to strive to achieve this same influence for others. Because of this, I am applying for the position of Woodwind Sargent this upcoming marching season. I believe I have not only the skills, but the drive to be a successful leader, and will do everything in my power to guide the woodwind section to new heights. Achieving the position of Woodwind Sargent would be a significant accomplishment. Wanting to pursue music in the future, it would be a great learning experience to fulfill this …show more content…
I have studied music; whether it be piano, voice, or clarinet for close to ten years, giving me an ample amount of experience in not only reading and interpreting music, but working with others. Participating in ensembles such as All-County and All-State has allowed me to work with amazing musicians. From these experiences I have learned a great deal from clinicians which could be easily transferred into teaching others. As mentioned before, I enjoy instructing people and have had lots of experience over the past year. I have worked with freshmen such as Joey and Matthew with All-County, All-State, and Solo and Ensemble music. Working individually with them has improved my skills in teaching and has motivated me to want to instruct others at a larger scale. I also look forward to eventually give lessons to younger students; especially middle schoolers if the opportunity presents itself. My knowledge and understanding of music as well as a solid background in helping others will allow me to confidently lead a large group and help guide them to mastering their

Marching Band Officer Essay I am interested in becoming a Drill Tech Captain or Brass Captain for the 2018-2019 Marching Band season. Ever since I started marching with the Mahwah Marching Thunderbirds, I have found myself amazed and interested in the culmination of expression through music and movement. Never before have I participated in an activity with such structure, passion, pride, and strong relationships between members. As a freshman, I was inspired by professional leaders of the band and how they were not only dignified while on the field, but enthusiastic and welcoming as well. I would love to be a leader in Marching Band so that I may positively contribute to the transference of the marching band drill and music from paper…

Successful organizations all require 2 things: a strong team and strong leaders to direct the team to victory, and the Marching Pioneers is no exception to this rule. With an ensemble as large as the Marching Pioneers, there is no physically possible way 4 top tier leaders can give everyone the attention they need. Section leaders are necessary for the success of our fine organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than being part of a leadership team that can add to the already growing success of this talented group. Here are just a few reasons why I would like to be in the next generation of saxophone section leaders. To be a section leader is like being given a lump of clay and being told to mold into the Statue of David.…

In my two years studying at Jurong Junior College, I have decided to join the Guitar Ensemble to expand my knowledge of music; to add on to my prior experiences of learning the electronic organ during the younger years of my life. I have certainly picked up on the basic skills of playing the guitar and even received the chance of being the leader of one of the sections, however, more importantly, I have stepped down from this CCA bringing back extremely useful skills such as team work, diligence as well as perseverance, which will certainly help me to improve my attitude towards life. This is even more apparent as we participated in the Singapore Youth's Festival Arts Exhibition in 2015, as we stayed back for long hours in school to perfect the techniques and performance within each section, as well as among all the sections in the ensemble, whilst making sure to keep a balance with my studies as well. Though there were some conflicts within the team during this tense period, the problems are quickly ironed out as we worked together and managed to clinch a Certificate of Achievement.…

I do not know how you have felt about this situation, but the state of affairs in terms of percussion has been tormenting my thoughts for the past several months. As Tyler and Patrick are graduating, and rumors of Harley, Ana, and Chase not participating in the program circulate, it is evident that we are going to have a shortage of percussionists in the marching band when we want to further expand the roster. Because of this, I do not feel comfortable in influencing your decision of my placement in the percussion section of the 2018-19 WHS Marching Cadets. I learned a lot from you and B.T.G. throughout my time both in high school and in Woodruff, so I feel I can optimally perform where you feel I am most needed. You know my strengths and weaknesses, so I feel that I can trust you to make the decision that would have the utmost benefits for the percussion section.…

During my last three years in Albuquerque I have been very active in my music community. I've been a violist in the UNM Symphony for two years, have participated in UNM's concert choir for one semester and intend on continuing that participation next semester. In addition to UNM ensembles, I have served as the alto section leader in the Albuquerque Institute of Religion Choir for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as well as the Chairman of the music committee for the Mountain View Ward of the same church. Last summer I also had the pleasure of participating in the Quintessence Summer Choral Festival with Matt Greer as a Quintessence Scholar. I'm very active in UNM's collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Educators and in the past three years I have served as secretary, vice president, and…

If you look above the music wing’s entrance, you will see a sign that says “Committed to Excellence.” This sign wouldn’t be there without some of the dedicated musicians that are committed to what they do. The best example of devotion and passion for what they do isn’t a student, but an instructor. Miss. Kathleen Thumpston is one of the most inspiring people I know, not only because of her ability to push students to strive to do the best that they can, but also because she is a great role model and cares about all of her students individually and personally.…
