Mannequin Challenge Reflections

My Group’s Videos I believe our group was fairly successful with our mannequin challenge in all ways. The end product turned out as we had imagined it and we are proud of our work. I think we really captured what we had hoped to in our videos. We aimed to stay very true to the play, but we tried to have a little fun with the background music. We chose to do act five, and we chose the four death scenes that occur. These scenes are not by any means fun or light, so we tried to keep our poses very reflective of that. In Desdemona’s death scene, we have Othello frozen smothering Desdemona. Othello’s expression is solemn and sad. We have Emilia peering in with her hands covering her mouth because she is shocked

Although this song is not inherently humorous, it is often used in modern media to accompany overly dramatic scenes. It also plays into the fact that, for Desdemona, it truly is too late to apologize to Othello. In all of our other scenes we follow the same pattern of more serious poses with interesting music and costumes. All of our music is very modern and reflects exactly what is going on in the scene. We have the song ‘backstabber’ by Kesha when Roderigo is literally stabbed in the back. I believe these clever pairings of music and scene also help the audience understand what’s happening. We spent a lot of time picking the right song for each scene. Our groups biggest strength was our attention to detail I believe. We were very specific on the props we used, the costumes we wore, and the way we were posed. For example, we shot many takes of Othello’s death scene because we wanted to get the perfect portrayal of Iago being reluctantly takes as prisoner. We eventually settled to have him trying to break free from the officer because it showed how frustrated he was being caught, and it added movement to the pose. Also, for Roderigo’s death scene, we had Katherine, who played Cassio, cut open her leggings and wrap her leg in a bloody cloth. This was our way of showing how Cassio would have had his leg cut in two. It wasn’t the focus of the scene, but we wanted to make sure it showed up in the …show more content…
The gender roles thing was very intriguing to me and wanted to hear more about how that was happening in the scenes. It grabbed my attention. I was confused as I watched, and I struggled to figure out what was going on in the scenes. I would like to reference specific parts of the scenes that confused me but I don’t have a good enough grasp on who was who to do so accurately. I was very impressed by the creativity, and the motion added to the throwing of the handkerchiefs was an excellent creative choice. I believe it added some fun and some animation to the scene. It definitely caught my

Peter and the Starcatcher is an exhilarating and adventurous story that tells the tale of the well known free-spirited boy, Peter Pan’s backstory. Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the 2004 novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which was fashioned into a play by Rick Elice. I had an exceptional experience of seeing the play on March 29, at 9:30, adapted by director, Kerry Bishop on the A.B Lucas Secondary School stage. This play certainly catches the whimsical and wonderful essence of the boy who never grew up and how he came to be. Starring Aidan Peters as Peter, Makayla Ashenden as Molly Astor, Michael Jenkinson as Black Stache and the entire A.B Lucas cast put together a humorous and heartwarming performance, leaving me on…

On the evening of Saturday October 8th, the cast of the play Fuddy Meers took the stage and put on a unique and exquisite performance. The play took place in the Temple Theatre which I found was a highly interesting venue. There were several different elements that I found greatly intriguing during the course of the ninety minute performance, however, there were a few elements that I felt were also lacking. The first element that I believed helped to add significance to the performance was the stage setup(1). The revolving setup of the stage was perfect for this play and it allowed much versatility for the characters during specific instances.…

Representations of “The Great Gatsby” The films “The great Gatsby” as well as “Midnight in Paris” were directed to portray the vibe the directors wanted to carry all throughout the films with characters and music, taking inspiration from the novel “The great Gatsby”. The “midnight in Paris” took inspiration from the great Gatsby to help bring the film alive as well as the characters which were involved in it. Both films as well as the novel portrayed this loving couple that did anything to be together but at the end of the day that wasn’t enough to be together after all. There was always a character in the story that got in the way of their happiness.…

By strangling her in their bed, the one they shared together as husband and wife, Othello shamelessly tries to regain his manhood, having lost so much of his moral sense by the end of the play that her death does little to hurt him until he realizes the course of his actions moments before his death. Man in this time was viewed as the greater sex, and my strangling her in their bed, he not only dominates her physically, but also as though he would be expected to by societal standards within carnal matters. Desdemona dies a victim of misogyny that was in turn caused by matters rooted deep in racism. Had Othello lived as any other white man in the play, it is likely that his hamartia would not have come into great importance in his life. The play is rightfully named The Tragedy of Othello because lives such an otherwise short-lived, tragic life.…

On Thursday November 19th, I went to the King’s College theatre production “The Illusion” by Tony Kushner. During the week of the play, I did not know what to expect, because this was actually the first play I have ever been too before. Also, I never heard of the Illusion by Tony Kushner before, and I had absolutely no idea what the play I was about to see was actually about. When I was thinking about going to the play, I was actually very excited about seeing a live performance for the first time. On the other hand, I had the thought in the back of my head that I was not going to have any clue what was going on during the play at all, because of not knowing of the Illusion by Tony Kushner.…

For my “field trip” assignment, I attended Arthur Miller’s The Crucible at the Shakespeare Taven in Atlanta. The Tavern is in the midst of the city, which seems to immerse itself in Atlanta’s culture. It is a clean, building with a main floor and a balcony, where I watched the play. They also had “old-timey” foods available for purchase.…

The Royal Family, written by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber, is a play about three generations of a wealthy family during the 1920s. I watched the play on December 6, 2015 at the Pierce College Arts Building. The play was directed Anita Adcock, who did great job setting the play as she intended it to be. Everything from the costumes, the lighting, to the typecasting was excellently produced. Particularly, the set design was able to greatly express the theme of the play.…

    Jealousy In Othello

In lines 1-22, Othello has a soliloquy in which he is figuring out why he must kill Desdemona and essentially justifying his reason in doing so. In line 1, Othello states, “It is the cause, it is the cause.” Though we do not precisely know which cause, the reader can infer that is in reference to killing Desdemona for her supposed unfaithfulness in their relationship. In the next lines (3-5) Othello is merely saying that the way in which he intends to kill her will not be by stabbing or cutting her in a way that will scar her skin because he sort of views it as a statue.…

Nevertheless, the film is more sexually charged with explicit scenes between Othello and Desdemona than Shakespeare’s scenes expressing their relationship. Parker’s use of theatrical special effects helps the viewer better imagine what haunts Othello after Iago plants the seed of infidelity into play. Visually seeing Desdemona naked with Cassio in a fantasy dream sequence does not seem as unimaginable as when reading the tragedy. “Though he has stayed true to period and character, Parker makes explicit what Shakespeare left to the imagination” (Gerstel, 1995). The direct to the camera soliloquies given by Iago helps the viewer better understand where he is mentally and witness the disdain he feels towards Othello for choosing Cassio over him for lieutenant.…

The movie Corpse Bride is a very charming yet macabre movie of how a shy, stumbling young man accidently marries a deceased bride. This movie is done by stop motion, yet is still very elegantly. With the grim aesthetic of the Victorian era, the living world is shown to be dull, gray, and practically lifeless while the Land of the Dead is full of color, and lively characters. The detail of every character and object is rich with also a grand orchestra, soft piano and jazz numbers to company.…

Music in film can have many purposes. It can change the mood of the audience, alert them to danger, or even be used to give exposition of the story to the audience. The latter, along with its variation, such as a monologue delivered in song, are used to create musicals--a genre used by Disney since its very beginning. For this journal I watched Disney’s Moana to see how it used music to move the plot, and influence its audience.…
