“No one can understand love who has not experienced infatuation. And no one can understand infatuation no matter how many times he has experienced it”(Mignon Mclaughlin). According to Match.com’s singles in America survey in 2014 of over 5,000 singles, 41 percent of men and 29 percent of women say they have experienced love at first sight. Also, when talking about love, Americans feel that love is the main foundation of marriage and affects their decision on marrying(PewResearchCenter.org) Likewise, our country now and the country of Verona in Shakespeare’s drama Romeo and Juliet have many of the same interpretations about love. William Shakespeare had many ideas on what love was, saying “The course of true love never did run smooth.” In Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is intelligent, sensitive, and impatient. Juliet is courageous, cautious, and caring. These traits from both Romeo and Juliet affect …show more content…
When Juliet receives word that Romeo killed her cousin Tybalt, instead of hating Romeo she chooses to love him. “For such a wish he was not born to shame. Upon his brow shame is ashamed to sit, For ‘tis a throne where honor may be crowned”(3.2.90-95). In this scene Juliet is mournful about Tybalt, but at the same time she realizes that she loves Romeo and will defend his honor. Thus, depicting that no matter what Juliet will always support and love Romeo no matter what happens. Furthermore, Juliet vaguely shows support to her dead cousin Tybalt by supporting Romeo who she just met. Instead of supporting her cousin who has the same flesh and blood. “Will you speak well of him that kill'd your cousin?-nurse(3.2.95-96) The Nurse asks Juliet why she would say good things about Romeo who killed Juliet. Juliet is blindsided and does not comprehend that Tybalt was family, and Romeo is a husband who she has only known for three
