Essay On Lima Bean Seeds

Procedure
Due to factors that could negatively affect my project, I had to create an additional procedure. Since lima bean seeds require maximum sunlight in order to germinate, I would have to move my planting cups around my backyard throughout the day in order for them to germinate in favorable conditions. The cause of this is the fact that the sun shines in different areas of my backyard throughout the day. Consequently, I created a garden to make moving the planting cups around simpler. If there is a certain spot you plan to plant your lima bean seeds that constantly has sun throughout the day, this portion of the procedure is not necessary.

For instance, your three small lima bean seeds will be one size, your medium-sized lima bean seeds will be slightly larger, and your larger lima bean seeds will be the largest. Make sure your lima bean seeds are measured in millimeters.
Carefully pour planting soil into your planting cups until they are halfway full and the nail is no longer visible.
Place your portable garden beneath a faucet and add water to each of the planting cups so the soil is moist and favorable for germination.
After you have added water to the soil, take your lima beans and place them in the center of each planting cup in their appropriate group. The three small lima bean seeds will be in their group, the medium-sized lima bean seeds will be in their group, and the large lima bean seeds will be in their group. Since there are three seeds, there should be three planting cups in each group. Once you have placed the seeds in the planting cups accordingly, label the planting cups so you know which planting cup contains which seed. Furthermore, be sure to label seed number one, two, and three on the planting cups in each

Purpose The purpose of this lab is to investigate animal behaviors by diving into the world of ethology. There are two ways pill bugs will respond to environmental stimuli: Kinesis (non-directional response) and taxis (directional response). Kinesis occurs when organisms (randomly) move around quickly when they’re unhappy and slowly when they’re happy, which is best demonstrated when one lifts up a rock or other material that the pill bugs are under. In contrast to the simpler response that does not necessarily involve many neurons, taxis is often observed in response to changes in light, heat, moisture, sound, and/or chemicals (odor).…

In a chapter called germination, Melinda observes that “ What seeds need to germinate” (Anderson 125). In order to the seeds to germinate, requires certain condition. The condition is that seeds need some period of time staying in a low temperature, no or little vegetation cover and limiting a competition with existing plants. After suffering a difficult time to deal with those problems, the seeds can finally germinate. This situation is really similar to Melinda's situation.…

Plant lima beans when you're sure danger of frost has passed, as lima beans don't tolerate even light frost. Germination and growth is poor when soil temperatures are below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Optimal temperature for germination is a soil temperature between 70 and 85 degrees. Conversely, lima beans don't tolerate extreme heat and usually cease to produce when temperatures remain over 85 to 90…

Impact of Salt on Seed Germination Introduction Germination is a key event in a plant’s lifetime and controlled by two main factors which are water and salt stress (Yuan et al., 2016 and Vallejo et al., 2010). Salt stress affects plant growth and crop production by causing osmotic and ionic stress in plants. Alonso-Blanco et al in 2009 reported that less study was made on the traits in Arabidopsis thaliana despite the immense genetic variation present in the species and the importance of seed adaptation to salt and drought stress. Many studies on the molecular basis of salt tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana had been done, however, the genetic variation that causes salt tolerance and other abiotic stresses in the species had not been widely…

Lima beans are a annual, and need to be in a warm climate to grow best. Lima beans grow best in temperatures between 60 degrees and 70 degrees and prefer a soil pH of 6.0 to 6.8. Also, lima beans need specific water levels to be successful.…

Callosobruchus maculatus are not considered directly harmful to humans; although, as an insect pest they damage millions of tons of human food crops in the form of legumes every year (Torres et al. 2016). Physically, they are small beetles, approximately 3.5 mm long. Because Callosobruchus maculatus larvae feed and develop exclusively on the seeds of legumes, the beetles are commonly referred to as "bean beetles. " Adult Callosobruchus maculatus have a very short lifespan of 6 to 14 days (Fox et al. 2006). During this short lifespan, adults do not eat or drink; instead, they spend all their time mating and laying eggs.…

You then create a hole in the center of each mound using your finger or a stick. Place two to three seeds, as recommended, in the hole and envelop them with soil pressing down just enough so the seeds and the soil make contact. Water the mounds in the same fashion as you would for row planting. It is probably a good idea to plant your flower seeds indoors first and transplant the seedlings in your rows or hills after the last threat of frost. Most flower seed packets indicate how long they need to be indoors before transplanting them in a flower garden.…
