As chief of state the president is a symbol of the entire nation. He is supposed to represent the nation he runs with pride and dignity. He awards medals to winners of scholarships. He commends astronauts on the journeys into space, as well as greets visitors at the white house. As chief executive he is the boss of millions in the government. He chooses how laws are enforced within the country, and appoints advisors for the executive branch. The president is also the chief diplomat for the American people. He decides how his ambassadors should communicate with other countries. He also has rule over foreign policy in America. The president is the commander in chief as well. He has power over all of the branches of the military and decides where they will be stationed, where ships and troops will go, and how weapons are used. He is the highest chain of command in the u.s armed forces. As chief legislator he doesn’t have the power to make the laws himself, but he may influence congress on the laws that are made.
