Ever since I first started school, I have always loved learning and challenging myself to do more. School and learning have always been fun for me when I take a test or am assigned a large project, and whenever I have the opportunity to do something that interests me, I seize it. Now as I prepare to enter high school, I have the opportunity to challenge myself further as a student in the Latin Lyceum program.
The Latin Lyceum is the best choice for me because it will enable me to think in different ways. I am most excited about learning Latin. The first time I was really exposed to it was when I was doing the musical this year which was The Sound Of Music, and at the beginning the nuns were singing in Latin. My music teacher translated it for us and I was amazed that she could say it in English so quickly, and I said to my friend, “That was so cool! I want to be able to do that!” Now at the time I wasn’t sure it would ever happen, but when I found out about how in the Latin Lyceum you learn Latin, I knew that it was one of the things I wanted to do in high school. I know I am able to smoothly balance the demands of school work and extracurriculars because I have been involved in several since fifth grade. They include chorus, being on the Pyne Arts team at the Kathryn P. Stoklosa Knowledge Bowl, and being a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Out of these, National Junior Honor Society is my favorite because I enjoy being able to go out on a Saturday and volunteering at a place like Catie’s Closet, raking leaves in a downtown park, and various other places in our community.
