Changing the legal drinking age to twenty five could possibly help reduce the amount of excessive drinking at a young age. According to the Core Institute, of all freshman in college, with an age of 18 or 19 typically, 73 percent of them drink regularly drink (elementsbehavioralhealth.com). Drinking at all underage is of course not only illegal, but in many of youth’s situation, it is also excessive. This is because many of the people aged 12-24 who actively drink, drink in order to get drunk (elementsbehaviorhealth.com). Excessive drinking is an extreme problem as it is the cause for over 88,000 deaths per year; in the U,S, alone! (cdc.gov) Drinking at a young age is typically what young people do to get drunk, and getting drunk is already well over the “excessive” amount.
