Let alone being an African American women. This women just wanted to count. As a NASA mathematician, she was smart. She was not only an inspiration because of her work, but because of how she ended segregation in NASA. “Here at NASA we all pee the same color.”- Al Harrison. Her father would work long extra shifts to pay for her education. Katherine received her B.S.(Bachelor in Science degree) from West Virginia State University in french and mathematics in 1937. Katherine’s Background may have been tough but she always focused on her education.

Katherine Johnson worked very hard and strived for success. Katherine Johnson has received a lot of awards for talents and hard work. Katherine won the National Technical Association designations as its 1997 Mathematician of the year. She was also awarded the silver snoopy that goes to a individual who best symbolizes the intent and spirit of Space Flight Awareness. In 1967 she won the NASA Lunar Orbit Spacecraft and operating team award. As her highest achievement was receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama for her work at NASA.
Katherine Johnson also achieved many things that didn’t come with a medal or a shiny trophy. She was one of the first African American women to work as a computer.
