Essay On Julius Caesar Tragic Hero

The title, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, makes it seem like Caesar is the tragic hero but that is not true. In William Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar is a political leader in Rome who hopes to become dictator but he is warned that he must “beware the Ides of March.” The prophecy comes true and Caesar is assassinated because of Cassius and Brutus’ conspiracy. Mark Antony, Julius Caesar’s friend, gives a funeral speech revealing the people who were involved in forming the conspiracy and assassinating Caesar for fear of dictatorship, so the people of Rome grew angry. The country enters into civil war and Brutus and Cassius die. A tragedy is a serious play in which the main character has an unhappy ending because of their fate or a flaw. According to Aristotle’s definition, “a tragic hero...makes a judgement error that inevitably leads to his/ her own destruction.” They must also possess specific characteristics.
