One drill hole, clamps and a whole bunch of money. Jimmy Valentine was a very skilled thief, he cracked safes for a living. Jimmy had a suitcase with drills, clamps, braces and other tools. He got caught eventually and sent to jail; Jimmy only expected to be there three months since all of his connections. Jimmy Valentine made shoes in jail as his job. After Jimmy got out of jail he went to a small town called Elmore, he saw love at first sight and that's when he changed. Jimmy's new self was also known as Ralph D. Spencer. Jimmy Valentine was truly dedicated to being a changed man; he built his own business, found love and gave up old friends. Jimmy started his own shoe business not to long after he got to the town of Elmore. His shoe store was called “Spencer's Shoe Store.” Jimmys shoe store is called that because he changed his name in Elmore. “A guard came to the prison shoe shop where Jimmy was assiduously stitching uppers, and escorted him to the front office.”( Pg 1) Since Jimmy's prison job was to make shoes, he knew how to do it fairly well and that is what helped him make money without stealing when he opened his business.
