I've never drawn a person in a style that didn't use stick figures let alone a detailed portrait. Because of the grid the shape of the head, body, and facial features turned out fairly accurate to the picture. I found that using the grid made me feel a lot more confident because I didn't have to rely on any artistic ability. However, when I had to erase that grid and freehand details and shading, all that confidence went out the window and I think that shows in the drawing. The shading on the face and shirt isn't terrible, but because I was so critical of my work the shading ended up much simpler and more minimalistic than I would like it to be. Despite my best efforts I couldn't get the shading to accurately show all the details from the picture and still look halfway decent. Also the hair, while looking better than I thought it would isn't as big or curly as Jacobs actual hair. Although I think it would be difficult for anyone to capture his massive mane accurately. Another smaller problem is that It's slightly off centered. I realized about halfway into drawing that I moved Jacobs face slightly to the right on the grid. Overall I'm quite happy with how this portrait turned out. It's not perfect, but I gave it my best effort and I think that shows in the final
