Personal Narrative: My Second Year Of Internship

I will begin by saying that, I cannot believe that we will officially begin this week Spring 2018. When I reflect back on the beginning of my second year of internship, I thought it would take forever to get here. I also thought that this year’s internship would never go by so fast as it has in the past months. I feel that like I just blinked for a second and 2018 was here. I am happy for the break that we had for winter break even if it was two weeks, as it helped me recuperate and come back excited to finish this semester. Nonetheless also nervous as I know that soon I will finish school, graduate, and start a new journey as a social worker. Moreover, this past year I have been challenged in many areas. Not only, I have had to learn to adjust to working longer hours but starting over again at a new internship placement. Now that I have four months working for Kaiser, I feel that despite the number of months I have been with them, I continue to be challenged weekly as most cases I currently have on my caseload are intense. I also still feel I have a hard time working twenty hours a week, as I have noticed feeling more tired. I admit I was not pleased to know that I had to work over the winter break but I also understood that continuity of care is vital in the field of mental health. In this case, if I would not have seen my client’s for over two weeks, some could have decompensated. For the first time, I felt I was practicing my therapeutic skills during the winter break as I had to prepare my clients for the winter clinic
