Personal Narrative: My Second Year Of Internship

Superior Essays
I will begin by saying that, I cannot believe that we will officially begin this week Spring 2018. When I reflect back on the beginning of my second year of internship, I thought it would take forever to get here. I also thought that this year’s internship would never go by so fast as it has in the past months. I feel that like I just blinked for a second and 2018 was here. I am happy for the break that we had for winter break even if it was two weeks, as it helped me recuperate and come back excited to finish this semester. Nonetheless also nervous as I know that soon I will finish school, graduate, and start a new journey as a social worker. I soon will be putting into practice the skills I have been learning in the past two years in the …show more content…
Moreover, this past year I have been challenged in many areas. Not only, I have had to learn to adjust to working longer hours but starting over again at a new internship placement. Now that I have four months working for Kaiser, I feel that despite the number of months I have been with them, I continue to be challenged weekly as most cases I currently have on my caseload are intense. I also still feel I have a hard time working twenty hours a week, as I have noticed feeling more tired. I admit I was not pleased to know that I had to work over the winter break but I also understood that continuity of care is vital in the field of mental health. In this case, if I would not have seen my client’s for over two weeks, some could have decompensated. For the first time, I felt I was practicing my therapeutic skills during the winter break as I had to prepare my clients for the winter clinic

So for me this is easy work. Here in FDU I don’t like the idea that freshman can’t be part of the SGA for their first year, but I hope I can be part in my next year. Doing an internship is in my goals for the next two years because I can’t do it now because of school rules but I do volunteer work. I volunteer in the Mexico Tourism Board here in Vancouver. I really like this because I meet lots of important people from Mexico and from Canada.…

During the first week I really struggled with my time management and I put the things I wanted to do with Kjell before the things I needed to do, such as school and picking up. At the end of the day, that left me with a huge mess and a boatload of classes. However, during the last week I was able to schedule out our play time and my school time. Better time management allowed for a much more relaxed and enjoyable week. Mastering that particular skill will help me in all of my future tasks, whether its college and I need to get homework done or I am working and have to turn something in for my boss.…

He had said the waiver was a one-time thing. Going into the spring semester I knew I had to give my best in every class so I would be able to come back the next year. Although, I knew what I had to do in the spring semester, I still had a terrible start to the spring semester. My time management was horrible and because of that I was missing a lot of class the first 3 weeks of the spring semester.…

Throughout my many years of schooling, studying and taking exams was something I always hated and dreaded. So when I learnt that there were weekly exercises and a major assessment task, I welcomed the idea. Unfortunately, I did not perform up to my weekly workbook’s expectations with the result of my business report and was quite disappointed. As stated earlier the content of my assessment would have been graded at a higher standard had my report included more of what we were covering in class. I was also put at a disadvantage as I broke my shoulder two weeks prior to the assessment date, hindering my ability to work on the assignment for a week.…

But by the end of winter quarter I was completely adapted to the system, and I my academic performance was very good. I would get A’s and B’s just like in high school, and I would feel like I was going to graduate in time. However, it was not until the second quarter of the second school year when I started working part time, and my grades were slowly dropping. Having a job affected my grades to the point where my overall GPA was about 2.1. I failed two classes that were part of my major, and I knew I needed to do something to change that.…

Assignment #1 Reflecting upon my lifelong multitasking habits, I’ve begun to realize that I’ve always engaged in multitasking habits which often lead to frustration, wasted time, and definitely feelings of being overwhelmed. In my attempts to squeeze in everything I need to do, my tasks and energy have suffered. For instance, on the days in which my son is not at school for a few hours, I feel a lot of stress to accomplish anything and everything that is more difficult to do while having my son with me. Things such as homework and studying, bill paying, research for things like meal/vacation planning, and maintaining my audiobook contacts for future work, all are easier to do when I have alone time. However, when I have those five hours…
