Inequality and reverse discrimination are key factors in the examination of affirmative action. The debate on affirmative action demonstrates it necessity as the discussion in itself points toward not supporting minorities even though inequality exists. However, in order to demonstrate this theme one must contemplate the reason for affirmative action, the Utilitarian and Kantian position, and prove that inequality still occurs. Following this further, what then is the purpose behind affirmative action?

The primary belief in Kantianism is that the intent of the actions stands superior to the consequence (Makinnon 2015). Furthermore, Kantians believe in the moral equality of persons. This is comparable to the purpose behind affirmative action which also pursues an arrangement in which all are equal. Therefore, affirmative action stands ethical as it is accomplished with a positive intent, aimed at creating equality.
Furthermore, as equality in society does not exist, affirmative action is indispensable. Statistics have demonstrated women maintain a wage and workforce gap due to inequality and discrimination (Misra, J & Murray-Close 2014). Further broken down, non-white women receive the lowest amount of wages and job opportunities. Ultimately, as equality in the business structure does not transpire, affirmative action is required. Thus, the required employment of certain individuals can guide employers toward removing inequality.
Henceforth, if there is inequality in the societal structure, then it is our moral obligation to remedy this to produce equality for all. In showing the Utilitarian and Kantian point of view while substantiating that a gap between persons still exists, we observe that affirmative action remains legitimate and
