Inquiry In Higher Education

The importance of research is critical pivotal in my discovery of what it has to offer and the significance it plays in higher education. Although I have completed one year in the doctoral program, I find myself questioning processes and approaches strategically, examining the quality of the data of new concepts Central Valley College puts into practice. I have found that educators have been defrauded by the same sales tactics found on infomercials where “you too can teach a child to read in as few as five minutes a day.” Duke (2011) describes the phrase research based as the term used to increase the influence of a methodology or product. To have a better understanding of inquiry and its purpose, it is important to ask the right questions of the research clarifying the validity and significance of its usefulness.
The usefulness of inquiry in improving practice
During the process of investigating my dissertation topic, inquiry required numerous changes to the subject matter. Although it is frustrating when a hypothesis does not evolve in the manner projected, it allowed one to appreciate the value of inquiry. While investigating the structure of the school and interviewing administration I was able to glean some insight into certain areas of inquiry. Inquiry is any systematic process for uncovering data that can lead to new information (Malloy, 2011). CVC uses research to assist in meeting accountability goals for accreditation set forth by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Moreover, the university research department is structured to support faculty and administration in obtaining quantitative and qualitative data for academic and administrative pursuits that serve to advance the requisites of Central Valley
