However, as a teacher, I want to change that mindset. I don’t just want to inspire children to become teachers or educators, I want to help them realize what they want to do with their lives. Realistically, I know that any decision they make in my classroom will most likely change numerous times through the rest of their life, but helping them make their first real decision of a true job or profession would be an amazing opportunity. At this point in many children’s lives most of their dream jobs include ones with words like princess, dragon slayer or fairy. I want to turn those words into jobs like doctor, lawyer, or teacher even if they have no intention of becoming one later in life. I want to inspire them to think outside the norm of kids their age, and be their own individual. Kids with ADHD need more stimulation so that it is easier for them to concentrate on the task given to them. Some children have trouble connecting shapes and numbers so they require a new or unusual visual or auditory way of learning the information. Every child deserves to learn in the same environment as their peers, even if they can’t process the information in the same time frame or in the same way as the children surrounding them. Another important part of any school experience is participation in extracurricular activities. Many sports and clubs do not or cannot accept children with special needs or a physical or mental disability and that is wrong. A high school in my area started a color guard for those teens whom could not physically or mentally do the color guard for the marching band. While that in theory is a good idea, it still separates them from the rest of the group. The goal is inclusion not exclusion which is what the separate color guard does. My goal is to give each child the same opportunity, not just in the classroom but in life. Children with special needs are often set away from the group so it makes it harder for them to socialize and make friends. I want to help mainstream education so that all children can learn and socialize together
