The thought process you used to develop your discussion board response was perfect. I enjoyed reading your response and I could directly relate to the examples you used regarding the United States (U.S.) Army. I may be bias, but I believe the U.S. Army has some of the best leadership practices, programs, and leaders in the world. As I am writing this, several U.S. Army leaders our coming to mind that had a lasting impact on my life. As far as humble leaders, I completely agree that it takes a humble leader to build a successful team. The adage goes, “There is no I in team.” While this might be a trite statement, it is completely true. In order for a team to be successful for an extended period of time, each team member must function equally, to include the leader of the team. As outlined by Chen (2016), a successful leader must have “an unexaggerated understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses which helps humble people gain an accurate awareness of intrapersonal resources, allowing them to put their strengths in perspective and avoid arrogance or self-contempt” (p. 1915). Chen (2016) also added, “with a balanced self-view, humble people tend to be psychologically healthy and have high self-confidence and self-esteem which …show more content…
I also feel you made an excellent point about how servant leaders empower their subordinates by making their comments and concerns a priority. According to Muthia and Krishnan (2015), “servant leaders develop followers, who in turn act as moral agents continuing to develop others into servant leaders; servant leaders are instrumental in grooming their followers to become wiser, healthier, and more autonomous, and thus become servant leaders themselves” (p. 10).
