Essay On How It Feels To Be Colored Me

In the beginning of my song, I talk about how hopelessly in love I am and all the crazy things this love makes me want to do like dance under the moonlight during a hailing rainstorm. I’m telling the man I love that I can handle anything that may seem like an obstacle. Wanting him to breathe my air means I don’t want to be apart from him and that I want to travel the world with him “seeing all the lights” such as the Eiffel Tower at night or the New York, Tokyo, or Dubai Skyline. I only want happiness with him, I don’t want to argue. This is the man of my dreams and I’m so in love I want him to make me his wife.
The ghost song I chose is Frank Ocean’s, Self Control because although he’s singing about heartbreak, disregard the lyrics and the light-hearted melody sounds so pure

Although I’m hopelessly in love with my boyfriend, I don’t feel the purples and reds taking over my body anymore after 3 years. Thinking back to what David Foster Wallace said in his “This is Water” speech, “If you're automatically sure that you know what reality is, and you are operating on your default setting, then you...probably won't consider possibilities that aren't annoying and miserable. But if you really learn how to pay attention, then you will know there are other options.” Now I’m not saying this relationship makes me feel annoyed and miserable, but maybe I should look at my other options and choose to be on my own. Love isn’t easy, but if all that will come to be is stress and pain, it’s better to just let go with the last memories being good

Growing Up White: How living in a white neighborhood formed me I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois. It is a village of 75,000 people located forty-five minutes north west of Chicago. Saying that white privilege doesn't exist is bullshit. I learned that real quick growing up in Arizona with my dad. My dad is brown and fits the 'Mexican' stereotype profile, meanwhile I took more of the white features from my mom's side. Most white people don't give me shit like they do with my dad and that has nothing to do with money and all to do with race. People are constantly questioning his legal status or making racist remarks towards him.…

However, I have noticed in the multicultural counseling class that there was more information. White Supremacy is a concept that was not fully explained to me during high school or middle school. White supremacy depicts power, a group that claims everything for themselves through making a system that works for themselves. In a sense, White supremacy is a system that defends those with wealth and power. Also, White supremacy consists of white supremacist that tend to look up to those of wealth, power, and that “stand up for our country”.…

In Chapter Six the topic of race and ethnicity is discussed. Within the reading it goes beyond black and white, discussing the inequalities different ethnicities face. Personally, racism is something I cannot fully wrap my head around. Why judge someone based on their race or ethnicity? An individual shouldn’t be criticized solely based on their race; they should be looked at beyond that.…

Race is often seen as a barrier, some sort of mental wall that keeps people apart. As a white person attending a school where I was the minority, I began to see how little race mattered. When you are in a school with many cultures and races, you begin to stop seeing race as "us and them", but more of a "we" sort of thing. I have made friends that have come from all walks of life, which gave me gave me a better understanding of all kinds of people.…

Since the use of genetic data to define the validity of race erupted in the 1970’s, some scientists have addressed the notion that genetic variation by means of racial differences represents a form of racialization and therefore racism, in healthcare settings and within health spectrums in general. By using race as an indicator of genetic disparities we are acknowledging race as a biologically based enigma rather than a social construct. We allow discrimination to color a picture of embodied inequality among healthcare measures. Just as the anthropological definition of culture defines cultures as static entities defined by geographic boundaries, we cannot perceive race as a biological marker of genetic variation because it to is complex and static. Human biology, no matter what geographic location one hails from, is…

Growing up, I never actually saw myself as anything other than normal when I looked in the mirror. Of course nothing special, but certainly nothing less. I credit my mom for that because has always raised my sister and I to believe that we were smart and beautiful and that we could reach anything we wanted in life if we worked for it. At the same time, her constant reminder was that no matter what, we should never consider ourselves to be better than, or above anyone else in life, because every individual has their own "special something" about them that makes them the unique person that they are. We were raised to never judge anyone and to try our best to be kind to people without allowing ourselves to be taken advantage of.…
