Changing or altering one’s identity will be something that takes time but is not impossible. Identity is composed of many things, but some things make up a majority of your identity. Most people do not recognize their insecurities alone, majority have insecurities pointed out to them. Once insecurities are pointed out, a lot of people look to improve on the characteristics that they are insecure about. Identity is tied very close to peoples reputation which is hard to alter since first impressions are crucial in today’s world. Once a reputation is established to someone through other people’s opinions or actually meeting someone is typically what that person will pin to an identity. In most cases people with reputations want to improve them through physical attributes, mental states, and social groups.
People’s physical appearance is a big part of their identity, and changing it will not be an easy task. Insecurities start with physical appearance since that is what everyone sees. When someone is included in a social group that is a part of your identity and to change group’s people are altering your identity and reputation. Elizabeth Wong states, " More times than not, I had tried to disassociate myself from the nagging loud voice that followed me wherever I wandered in the nearby American supermarket outside Chinatown." Elizabeth has a perfect example of how she did not want to be associated with, in this case it was her grandmother, but she still didn't want to have the same reputation her grandmother has. Reputation is a key factor to your identity in the world we live in since everyone is so judge mental. When changing groups people will have to deal with judgment whether that be positive or negative but again time will make it
